YouTube TV

YouTube TV

YouTube TV started as a tiny team trying to create a product that blurred the lines between traditional cable TV and video on-demand. As one of the very first UX designers to join, I lead the design for multiple product areas across many devices, simplifying the outdated TV experience of the past.

The complexity of including most legacy features from traditional TV, while still aligning to the YouTube brand/UX, forced me to continually push to evolve both sides and resulted in many new patterns and flows for YouTube UX as a whole.

We were also the first team to make use of a new internal typeface (YouTube Sans). Using a bold approach, this design directly informed the product’s marketing strategy, and eventually other YouTube product design as well. I updated the visual design system to ensure consistency while we subtly separated our product brand from YouTube “main”.

Due to the influence this design had on the product’s marketing direction, I was also able to partner with them on multiple projects including the design of our own product launch website.

The launch of YouTube TV was extremely well received by customers and media alike. The product has continued to grow in popularity and now has over 5 million subscribers, making it the biggest internet TV subscription service in the U.S. today.
